MLB.com: Crow rocks St. Louis for cancer awareness / Rocker, Costello kick off All-Star festivities for charity

ST. LOUIS -- On a midsummer night under a grand and glowing Arch, Sheryl Crow came out with Elvis Costello for an unexpected second encore and a trembling sea of baseball fans went wild. Among them leaning against the stage right in front was local resident Diane Huddleston, holding up a large sign. It read: I STOOD UP TO CANCER 4 TIMES! "I was proud to be here as a survivor," said Huddleston, wearing a cap and a smile that rivaled Crow's. Huddleston was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 1982, then she was diagnosed with cancers in 1996, 2003 and 2008. She was smiling here and now because if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad. "I just think it's so great that Sheryl did this," she added. The music kept playing on this night at the All-Star Charity Concert presented by Pepsi, finishing with the bang of a fireworks show over the mighty Mississippi, right here on the banks where a rock star cut her teeth at a local bar a couple of decades back.

Pablove Foundation - RIP Pablo

I would like to express my sadness, and condolences to my friends Jeff, Jo Ann and Grady over the passing of our little friend Pablo Castelaz (only 6 yrs. & 6 days old!) Saturday, June 27th. Laurie , Lydia & I attended the incredible memorial celebrating the life force of this very special child. We can learn so much from Pablo and his family, Jeff, Jo Ann and brother Grady. They did EVERYTHING humanly possible during Pablo's year and a half battle with cancer. Jeff's daily narration on the Pablog, getwellpablo.blogspot.com, is a touching window into their world. Observations of the cherished precious moments and extremely difficult struggles so eloquently penned. Often bringing a tear to the eye of this reader and hundreds, most likely thousands, tens or even hundreds of thousands of readers world-wide. I'm quite sure that millions will get the message and feel the love and thirst for life that is PABLO! The Pablove Foundation is already helping out kids with their own cancer battles. For a boy who's life on earth was so very short, Pablo Threadkill Castelaz will impact many, many lives for many, many years to come. Pablo is with us. Through love and laughter and action and you and us -- Pablo lives forever. The Pablove Foundation will continue to fight in his name. Please visit pablove.org to learn how you can contribute.

Wally Featured in Home Town Cover Story

His personalized drum sticks are inscribed with the words, "Wally Beat It," which is apropos to just about everything in Wally Ingram's life.

The Beloit native beat his mother's cookware as a toddler. He beat the odds as a young performer to eventually beat the drums with a who's-who of rock 'n' roll legends. And then, in the most important battle of his life, he beat cancer a little more than a year ago. Now he's back banging the drums again, his infectious smile lighting up stages around the world.

"(I'm) living the dream — day in and day out," the 46-year-old said from his home in California, where he's back playing with longtime friend Sheryl Crow. "It's great to be alive and good to be back at work again."

Modern Drummer magazine: Wally Ingram - Back With a Little Help from His Friends - by Dave Stanoch

What a difference a year can make. In January 2007, Wally Ingram was finishing up brutal chemotherapy and radiation treatments, battling for his life against the Squamous Cell Cancer that had invaded his throat and neck. At the end of that month, while awaiting the results of his treatment, he was able to participate in a star-studded benefit concert in his honor, organized by Uber-producer/drummer Butch Vig and Bonnie Raitt, that featured Butch's band Garbage, Bonnie, Sheryl Crow, Jackson Browne, Keb' Mo', Crowded House, George Clinton, and many others, in Glendale, California.

"It was a powerful night," Wally reflects, "the incentive to be there and play got me through some really tough days. The event itself was magical. The outpouring of love from the artists and the audience was overwhelming. It put wind in my sails to fight on." In June, Wally learned that he is cancer-free with a clean bill of health.

In the recording department....Wally Ingram just wrapped up a recent session with Glen Hartman from the one & only bayou legends, The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars. The title of the new World Music release is planned to be "World According to Glen Hartman & Wally Ingram" and we hope to have it released by the end of the year.

The New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars (NOKAS) have carried on with their own interpretation of the klezmer tradition since 1991. New Orleans, where arcane cultural borrowing is normal, seems to be a natural home for a music that has always blended diverse styles. Yet, "when we first started playing this music, people had no idea what it was (many still don't)," explains Arthur Kastler, the band's original bass player, "They would stand there with their jaws open.... But right away, they danced."

Eric McFadden & Wally Ingram recently completed and have been touring behind their debut album, Alektorophobia. The album was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, California in 2005. In addition to Eric and Wally, Alektorophobia features the following amazing musicians:
Wally Ingram & Eric McFadden

Keb' Mo - slide dobro, acoustic guitar
Les Claypool (Primus) - bass, voice
Nels Cline (Wilco) - guitar
Pete Sears (Jefferson Airplane) - B3 organ
Juan Nelson (Ben Harper) - bass
James Whiton (EMT) - upright acoustic bass
Sam Bass - cello
Chris Haugen - lap steel guitar, backing vocals
Robin Coomer - voice
Tiffany Travalent - voice

David Lindley & Wally Ingram have just released their most recent live album, Live In Europe! This CD is a combination of recordings of two shows that David & Wally did in Europe last year, the Fabrik in Hamburg, Germany and then Muhle Hunziken in Rubigen, Switzerland. A huge thanks goes out to Kai Fricke and Joe James, as they are responsible for all the recording. Kai Fricke also did the mixing and mastering and he did a fabulous job.
